Here is a quick workout to test your current fitness level…
- Warmup 1 mile
- Fartlek 2 min on (5k pace)…90 sec off (jog) for 2 miles
- Cool down 1 mile
Here is the test if your cool down mile is faster than your warmup mile then you have more left in your tank. Sounds like common sense right?
For example you warmup to a 8:00 min/mi but after workout your on your cool down mile and it’s easy you realize your watch says your cooling down to a 7:20 pace.
It is a great way to see if you put all your effort into your 2 min “on” fartlek portion of the workout.
Fartlek helps improve your speed and leg turnover in racing…but this workout must be ran hard to improve those quick fast twitch muscles.
